On 4/3/16 at approximately 1545 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of a single vehicle collision just outside the community of Hydaburg. Investigation revealed that Celeste M. Zarate, age 24 of Hydaburg, was operating a 2004 Ford Escape on the dump road just outside of town, when she lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway. Zarate’s vehicle then rolled over causing approximately $6,000.00 in damage to the vehicle. Zarate left the scene of the accident without reporting it to law enforcement. Zarate was later located at a residence in Hydaburg, and the investigation showed that Zarate was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Zarate was placed under arrest for DUI, and transported the Craig jail facility where she was remanded with a bail set at $1000.00.

On 4/4/16 at approximately 1315 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of Criminal Mischief and Vehicle Theft from the owner of a remote parcel of land in Dolomi Bay, located on the southeast side of Prince of Wales Island. The complainant reported that at some point between October 2015 and April 2016, unknown individuals entered his private property and broke out the ignition on a 2012 Honda 4-wheeler that was stored on the property. Damages to the machine are estimated at approximately $1000.00. The suspects then were able to start the 4-wheeler and drove it away from the property. Additionally, a Yamaha outboard fuel line was stolen from the property, valued at approximately $30.00. The investigation is ongoing. On April 06, 2016, Alaska State Troopers (AST) contacted conducted a traffic stop at approximately mile 1.5 of Boundary Road. A passenger in the vehicle, 24 year old, Jason Onalik of Klawock, was found to have an outstanding Anchorage AST warrant for violating the conditions of his probation. Onalik was taken into custody and transported to the Craig Police Department Jail where he was held on $500 bail.
